The Impact of “Big Data” on the Laboratory

Webinars

The ultimate goal of “Big Data” is to provide timely insight that is used to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of organizations. We live in a “data rich - information poor” world where access to data is not a problem but access to actionable information is. To overcome this, an organization must first Integrate its people, processes and systems, Analyze collected data using visualizations and other techniques to uncover insights or events and then Act on these key events; in real time.

Laboratories produce significant amount of data that is valuable to the broader organization. Frequently this data is locked in LIMS, instrument systems, SAP and other business systems making it difficult to use in a timely manner. This is especially true for Quality Testing labs where the focus is on rapid turnaround time and efficiency. Frequently questions are raised where laboratory centered data is needed to make critical decisions but is not available to the decision makers when it is needed and in a useful form.

This presentation will focus on the first two aspects of the ”Integrate, Analyze, Act” loop utilizing Tibco Spotfire. It will discuss and show how Spotfire is used to integrate data from multiple systems including data currently residing in LIMS system(s), SAP QM and other laboratory based systems. We will explore several real-world examples where Spotfire is used to visualize and analyze aggregated data facilitating informed decision making.

SAP is the trademark or registered trademark of SAP AG in Germany and in several other countries.
