Best Practices in Supply Chain Management: A CMO Perspective

Webinars
Course introduction

Supply chain management has advanced rapidly over the past decade, evolving from what was once referred to as “materials management” into the essential glue that binds all aspects of a business’ internal and external collaborations. Biopharma companies like every business, value predictability above almost anything else. Knowing that shipments will consistently arrive on time and on budget makes innumerable other aspects of running a business much simpler. With today’s complex, global supply chains, a disruption at one unit can have far-reaching effects that are detrimental to the lives of patients, reputations of businesses, and financial sustainability of companies.

Creating a supply chain that mitigates the likelihood of such disruptions takes diligence. Each step in the process, from the customer forecast, to the firms demand and capacity planning, supply of raw materials and components all the way through to quality assurance and distribution, must be reliable and predictable. Predictable, risk mitigating supply chains are now an essential asset for biopharma and, as such, the ability to assess the strength and predictability of a CMO’s operations has become a vital skill. Such assessments are grounded in the indispensable tenets of supply chain’s best practices. When a supply chain is working efficiently, it eliminates silos and ensures that people work together effectively.
